Case Studies
Below are some examples of my work produced using a wide range of authoring tools, and covering such diverse sectors and topics as technology, marketing, privacy compliance, social services and not-for-profits.
Life Without Barriers - Understanding Open Adoption.
LWB provides one of Australia’s largest foster care programs, and in NSW they began offering adoption as a permanent option for children in their care in 2019. However, despite their depth of child protection experience, staff were unfamiliar with adoption. This course provides learners with the historical background to adoption and explains the current “open adoption” practice in NSW, the laws, procedures and LWB’s responsibilities. The course is designed in Rise embedded with videos created using Vyond and Camtasia and interactive presentations created with Articulate Storyline.
ADMA - Data Pass
Data Pass is a 9-module online course designed to train staff within organisations which use personal information for marketing purposes, how to gather personal information manage it and use it in a privacy-compliant way. To date over 600 people from some of the leading brands in Australia, have enrolled on the course, which receives top reviews for the way in which it makes an apparently dull topic engaging and interesting. NRMA - Privacy Compliance Training
In 2017 I designed a privacy compliance course for NRMA to teach staff at every level of the organisation and its subsidiaries (such as Thrifty car rental). Over the next 18 months I facilitated the course in-class to over 300 staff. The course covered the importance of gathering personal information about customers in a compliant way, managing the data and ensuring that anyone handling the data maintained a high standard of security. The project also included an online module specifically on compliance with the Spam Act, which is featured in the link below.
Dicker Data - Introduction to computer networks
In 2017, Dicker Data, a wholesaler of computer hardware and related products launched a service to sell Telstra’s networking services through their numerous resellers. To sell these new services the resellers needed to be trained in the principles and practice of networking, so I was contracted to provide a suite of elearning courses on computer networks, equipment and their application. I'm proud of this piece of work, not so much because of the design, but because the subject matter was quite different to anything I had tackled before and involved a steep learning curve for me.

Life Without Barriers - Case Management Induction
This 3 module course helps new starters in the role of case management for the child, youth and family division of LWB to get to grips with their job. It provides a snapshot of the first 4 weeks on the job and an introduction to the other players in the team. It summarises the tasks a case manager is required to perform and the compliance essentials which bind everyone working for the safety, welfare and well-being of children in care. It is built in Rise and embedded with interactive Articulate Storyline presentations and videos created using Vyond and Camtasia.
Fundraising Institute of Australia - Various
Between 2015 and 2019 I developed a wide range of elearning courses for the FIA, including the Diploma in Fundraising, Certificate in Fundraising, Fundraising Essentials, and Gifts in Wills. I also helped to manage a project for the transfer of e-learning courses from an old learning management system to a new one. Most of courses were developed using Articulate Storyline and later Rise. The example I've used here is one of my earlier efforts at working with Rise - it's a module from the Fundraising Essentials course which looks at retention of fundraising donors.
Charity Videos
As I have developed my skills in video editing and animation, I have offered my services to several charities to help them with their fundraising efforts. Two such charities are Lifeline and a small charity called Pygmy Childcare. For Lifeline I created an animated video using Vyond to promote a charity cycling event in Sydney. For Pygmy Childcare I created a video by compiling existing and new footage to tell the story of one woman's mission to help a tribe of pygmies displaced by military conflict in the Congo.
LG Professionals - LMS Upgrade
LG is a not-for-profit association which provides training and conferences for the local government sector. In 2018 I managed a project to assess and select a new Learning Management System for their online learning products. This involved the development of their business and system requirements. In the process I also redesigned two courses – an induction course for new local government staff and a course about change management.

Life Without Barriers - Crisis management
Children living in residential care homes have experienced serious trauma in their young lives, and most have been through multiple unsuccessful foster care placements. They often exhibit challenging behaviour which stems from their past experiences and sometimes results in anger and aggression. This course is for the staff in these homes who need to manage the crisis, protect other children and themselves from harm and seek a positive resolution for the child concerned.
